Carrie Staller
Carrie Staller is a drummer and dancer who is based in the Bay Area. She has been studying, teaching and performing West African music with the blessing of her teachers for more than 20 years and is grateful for the way that music brings people together, and especially people from other cultures.
Carrie is the co-creator of the She Drums documentary about women drummers. Carrie is also part of the Drummm facilitation team, and was the founder of FemFoli and AshoFem, interactive women’s empowerment groups. Carrie has performed with Joan Baez, Les Merveilles de Guinea, and Kissidugu Percussion and Dance under the direction of master drummer Gabriel Fara Tolno.
She is excited to be on the Drum Summit advisory board because she is combatting the outdated belief that women shouldn’t drum and loves seeing women step into their music power.
