There’s one thing you can say about every drummer and percussionist on the planet: they’re part of a family.
Well, drums have families, too.

For Drum Summit, we’ve organized the drums of the world into 7 families based on their geographic and cultural origins as well as similarities of design and playing techniques.

Within each of these families the different drums are sometimes called father, mother, and child— representing the low, middle and high parts of the tonal spectrum.

As Drum Summit evolves we will explore and explain these different families of instruments with the help of the world’s leading female drummers and teachers.
